Entrepreneur Museum

Throughout our Marketplace study, the students were practicing being young entrepreneurs. We decided to spend some time researching and learning about famous entrepreneurs. Below are the entrepreneurs that our class chose to learn more about.

Each student spent time researching and taking notes on their entrepreneur. We organized our notes and through discussion, we decided we wanted to share our learning in a few different ways. We all agreed that we wanted to share our learning in the form of an Entrepreneur Museum. We spent time writing first person biographies about our entrepreneurs, as well as creating portraits out of pencils, colored pencils, and oil pastels. We also decided to share our learning in the form of a multigenre project. We brainstormed different genres that we come in contact with each and every day. From there, each student chose a genre to create and share learning from their entrepreneur research. Students created magazine spreads, poems, dioramas, journal entries, and Keynote presentations.

Once our projects were complete, we set up the Entrepreneur Museum and invited our peers to join us in Room 209 to check out our work!

Town Meeting

On Friday, March 22 our class shared our learning at Town Meeting. The students decided what they felt was most important to share with their peers. We had smalls groups share about our trip to JA BizTown, preparing for Made in the U.S.A. Marketplace, Slice of Life Challenge, and our Entrepreneur Study. We also put together our own version of the Harlem Shake. Enjoy!

Made in the U.S.A. Marketplace

After weeks of preparation it was finally time to release our one-of-a-kind products to the third and fourth grade students.

Each business team carefully thought out how they would like to display their products and spent time creating large banners for each of their tables.

It was an extremely busy three days of selling at the Made in the U.S.A. Marketplace. The students learned that they needed to be patient and flexible while awaiting customers. The students also learned that some of their products did not sell as quickly as they had expected. Marketplace was a wonderful opportunity to the students to collaborate with their peers, express their ideas, problem solve, plan, and execute the steps that it took in order for them to get to the selling part of the Marketplace.

After all of the third and fourth graders had a chance to shop with their classes, the students opened up Marketplace for the rest of the students to buy their remaining products on the last day of school before spring break.

When we came back to school, each business team worked together one last time to count their total earnings. As a class, we raised a grand total of $214.15.

We will combine our grand total with the other fifth grade classes and plan to donate the money to The Ronald McDonald House and the Make a Wish Foundation.
